June 25th @ Pirates

Decided to give a bunch of players the day off since we were facing a bad Neagle. Ensured I had zero left handed bats in the lineup. Must have worked since we had fourteen hits, including a two run homer by Amaro. Greene was a pinch homer by Van Slyke away from a shutout. had to settle for a one rune, four hit complete game. Both Pratt and Amaro’s cards are a bit cheesy against left handed pitching. might have to try this more often as the season goes on. We’re riding a twelve game win streak!

June 23rd vs Braves

What I like about Strat is the dice and how luck can play a huge role in an individual at bat or game, but due to statistical probability, things will normalize over a 162 game season. Last two games were the luck instance. Last game Pete Smith was throwing a shutout, while today Smoltz got smoked, chased in the fourth after giving up seven runs over two innings, including homers by Eisenreich (who’s on a tear, by the way) and Daulton. Mulholland pitched a beauty, going the distance and only surrendering one run on a ground out with the defense playing back. What a great sweep of the Braves!

June 22nd vs Braves

This was a weird one. Started off with a Sanders walk. He then stole second and third and scored on a grounder. After that Rivera was mowing them down but ran into some trouble in the seventh, loaded the bases with no outs. Andersen took over and pitched out of the jam. Meanwhile, Pete freakin Smith was blanking us. Normally I’d never pull a pitcher who’s throwing a shutout, but with two outs and the bases loaded as mentioned above, figured the Braves would rather go for some insurance instead of trusting Smith to keep pitching over his head. Didn’t work and then the bullpen let them down in the eighth. Wohlers has a strong inning, but Stanton came in and blew it, with a triple by Eisenreich the biggest blow, giving us a two run lead heading into the ninth. Mitch came in and immediately gave up a solo shot to Justice. Sphincters tightened in the dugout, but then went 1-2-3 and secured another save.

June 21st vs Braves

We legit stole this game. Scratched out a run against Maddux and Jackson was cruising through three, then mini-exploded in the fourth giving up three runs, including three back-to-back walks. Lifted him after five to pinch-hit and wound up taking the lead with a two run single by Kruk who then scored on a triple by Inky. Next inning Dykstra went yard for two. Andersen cruised through two innings while West did his best to blow it. Hitting the first batter then walking the next three! Turned to Mason who escaped with no further damage. That led to Mitch with a 1-2-3 inning!

June 20th vs Marlins

This one was a nail biter. Schilling had a rough first, giving up two runs right away, but Kruk got one back in the bottom with another solo shot. Schilling settled down and tore through the Marlins lineup, while Dykstra gave us a lead with a three run homer. Kruk added another solo shot, and is on a tear recently. He has eleven so far, while in reality he hit fourteen all year. Shilling got into a little more trouble in the sixth, giving up two more. With a one run lead we turned to the bullpen. West gave up a hit and nothing else, Andersen had a perfect inning, which left the Wild Thing with a one run lead and a bunch of Tums. Lead off walk (of course), a pair of outs then another walk. Roll the dice and it falls on a hit, but wait! We’re playing with clutch rules and Magadan chokes! Instead of a potentially tying single he weakly pops out to second base. The team continues to roll with Atlanta coming to town.

June 19th vs Marlins

Greene pitched a gem, three hit shutout. We batted around in the sixth, scoring five runs, with Morandini’s bases loaded, two run double being the killer blow. Kruk had a solo shot earlier. This team is on cruise control right now, feasting on some bad teams.

June 18th vs Marlins

Mulholland was solid, scattering eight hits, but got into some trouble in the eighth. Mason came in and got out of the jam. Wild Thing saved it in the ninth in typical fashion, walking the first batter then ending with a pair of strikeouts. Daulton had a pair of clutch singles to knock in three.

June 17th vs Marlins

Bats were ice cold, but Rivera pitched a gem. He took a shutout into the 8th and gave up a single run thanks to an error by Dykstra. Then in the bottom of the inning we scored a run without a single hit with four consecutive walks. Andersen came in and blanked them for three innings. Bottom of the 11th Eisenreich, who was the fourth walk earlier on a pinch-hit, starts and ends the inning with a walk-off homerun, knocking in both runs for the game.

June 16th @ Expos

We’re cruising now. Would love to play the Expos all season. Eisenreich was a double shy of hitting for the cycle, going 4 for 6 with three RBIs and scoring two runs. Jackson had one bad inning giving up two runs, but shut them out the rest of the way going the distance.

June 15th @ Expos

Another easy victory. Schilling was scoreless through seven before giving up a solo homer, ending the team streak at 25 2/3 innings. Once again the damage was done by hitting in bunches and no homeruns.
